The sony ericsson c510 is available in two colors options, Galactic Black and Luxury Silver. It carries a sleek and elegant design and is one of the slimmest phones in the Cyber-Shot series with only the Sony Ericsson C902 leading just a bit ahead of it. This phone is not only sleek but also light in weight, weighing just 92 grams. Almost half of the front panel is covered by a 2.2 inch TFT screen with 256k colors at a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels, While the screen is equipped with an accelerometer sensor that automatically flips the display when the phone is rotated. Just below the screen are the calling keys with a 5-way navigational D-pad at the center.
Below the calling keys you will find a 12 key numerical keypad with spacious and large keys. Another interesting thing that is noticeable in the design is the metallic lid that covers the camera and the flash at the back panel of the phone. The phone has 100 MB of internal memory and a Micro memory stick slot (M2) that houses the external memory of the device. It is a quad-band GSM device that is also compatible with 3G and can be said to be a global device which can work in any network of the world. Among other connectivity options you will find Bluetooth version 2.0 A2DP along with a mini USB port that helps you to connect to other compatible devices and computers.
There is no Wi-Fi and GPS receiver present on the device which is fair enough looking at the price range of this rather entry level phone. While the units phonebooks can store up to 2000 contacts with multiple phone numbers, picture ID, ring ID and also the use of Photocall features. Users are also able to view 30 received, missed and dialed calls each in the call history section. Furthermore this device supports vibration alerts and is compatible with the polyphonic and MP3 ring tones that can also be downloaded from the Internet. This phone can also send and receive SMS, MMS, instant messages and e-mails, while the phone browser is compatible with WAP 2.0 and HTML and also includes a RSS reader. Along with a bunch of media player options this phone also has a FM radio with RDS support, is JAVA enabled and offers some interesting games in the phone menu.
Sony Ericsson has obviously launched this phone to offer a fun yet budget friendly camera phone and the 3.2 mega-pixel camera includes a LED flash and is loaded with the features like auto-focus, Smile Detection, face detection, digital zoom and geo tagging. At this stage I am unable to tell you about the quality of pictures and videos clicked with this camera phone, but let us hope that it does well in this field just like its predecessor, the Sony Ericsson C905. It also includes a secondary video call camera that is placed at the front panel.
People who like Sony Ericsson models have good expectations for this phone and it’s planned to be out in the markets in the first quarter of 2009. Now we’ll just have to wait and see if this phone gives any worthwhile competition to the already established Nokia XpressMusic 5800.
