Wide Angle
What is the difference between a regular wide-angle lens and a wide-angle zoom lens?
Is it just that a wide-angle zoom has the capability to zoom more, rather then being set at a fixed focal length?
Also, can you adjust anything with a wide angle lens, as in how much ‘distortion’ you want, or does it really just depend on the subject?

I agree with Tobasco, but I wanted to add that there IS a way to adjust for distortion in the field, and that is to move closer to your subject. If you want to accentuate the effect of a wide angle (24mm or wider), move in very close to your subject and you can get some pretty cool “effects” that way. As you move further from your subject, you will see less and less distortion.
Another thing to keep in mind is that zoom lenses have varying aperatures dependant on which focal length your at. This is usually more of a concern when you need a fast telephoto zoom as those tend to have smaller aperatures. Basically, the higher the focal length, the smaller the aperature will be when wide open.
Also, some lesser quality wide angles have noticable vignetting around the edges of the image. This means dark corners around the edges of your image. This can be minimized by using smaller aperatures, but this is really an indication of a cheaper lens. Its definately something to look out for whenever considering a new purchase.
